Czech Republic and EU to support negotiations on Nagorno-Karabakh settlement

The Czech Republic and the EU in general are ready to support the
negotiation process on a Nagorno-Karabakh settlement, Czech Foreign
Minister Jan Kohout said at a press-conference after negotiations with
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, ITAR-TASS reports.

Kohout noted that the Czech Republic refers to international legal
norms, the act signed in Helsinki and the Madrid document, reflecting
the principle of territorial unity.

The Azerbaijani foreign minister expressed his regret that Armenia has
not given a clear answer on the renovated variant of the basic
principles of settlement (Madrid document) proposed by the OSCE Minsk
Group on a Nagorno-Karabakh settlement. “There were 9 meetings between the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents. Azerbaijan said that it
agrees to the document and is ready to start working on the main peace
agreement”, Mammadyarov said. He added that the lack of an answer from
Armenia has halted the process.

The Azerbaijani minister said that he plans a meeting in Venice within
the framework of the celebration of the 60th Venice Commission of the
EC with the co-chairs of the Minsk Group and discussions of the
situations.
