Council of friendship groups with Azerbaijan established by EU parliaments

The establishment of a consulting council of friendship groups with
Azerbaijan by the parliaments of EU countries has been approved. The
decision was taken at a conference in Tallinn, Trend reports, citing
the press service of the State Committee for diaspora affairs.


The event was organized with the support of the state committee, the
embassy of Azerbaijan in Latvia, the Azerbaijani-Estonian
parliamentary friendship group and the Estonian-Azerbaijani cultural
center 'Aydan'.

An Estonian parliamentary deputy and head of Azerbaijani-Estonian
parliamentary friendship group Eldar Efendiyev noted that there are
still obstacles for normal relations between parliaments, and so some
projects are unrealized. That is why they need a constantly operating
structure.

An Estonian deputy, Vladimir Welman, noted the importance of
cooperation with the Baltic Assembly with GUAM. An Azerbaijani
parliamentary deputy, Rovshan Rzayev, noted the importance of
integration of Azerbaijan into EU.


In the second stage of the conference the deputy head of a department
for social-political affairs of the Azerbaijani presidential
administration Arastun Mekhtiyev spoke about the fulfillment of all
Azerbaijani obligations to the EC.

The head of the State Committee department for diaspora affairs,
Sureddin Gumbatov, spoke about the possible contribution of Azerbaijan
due to the integration of Azerbaijan into Europe and the possible
contributions of diaspora organizations to the consulting council of
the friendship groups. He noted the importance of cooperation between
diasporas with EU parliaments and NGOs.
