The progress towards resolving the conflict in Syria became possible only after the start of the Russian Air Force's operation, which led to an undermining of the terrorists' potential, the Russian president's special envoy to the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, said at a conference of the Valdai discussion club titled 'Middle East: From Violence to Safety'.
"In recent months, important steps to launch a process of political settlement in Syria were taken. According to our estimates, it became possible largely due to effective actions by the Russian Air Force, assisting the Syrians in the fight against terrorism and extremism," RIA Novosti cited him as saying.
