The imam of the Yardyam Mosque in the north-east of Moscow, Makhmud Velitov, has been detained on suspicion of involvement in terrorist activity and has been taken to an investigator, a source in law enforcement agencies told Interfax.
Officers of law enforcement agencies detained Velitov on Tuesday on suspicion of complicity in terrorist activity. The imam has already been taken to the Russian Investigative Committee's district department for questioning, the source said.
"A search was conducted at his apartment and the mosque. He has been charged with publicly calling for terrorist activity and publicly justifying terrorism," Interfax cited his lawyer Dagir Khasavov as saying.
