Marziyeh Afkham becomes first female ambassador since Islamic revolution

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham was appointed as the Islamic Republic’s ambassador to Malaysia, becoming the first female ambassador since the 1979 Islamic revolution.

Afkham is expected to start her mission in Kuala Lumpur in the coming weeks.

The 53-year-old diplomat was appointed the foreign ministry's spokeswoman in August 2013. She served as the foreign ministry's Director General for Information and Press for eight years, Trend reports.
