The main aim of Russia's policies in the Middle East is to take a region onto the path of sustainable development, at the same time Moscow does not seek dominance, the Russian Upper House Speaker Valentina Matvienko said at the Valdai Discussion Club's Middle East Dialogue.
Russia's stance on the issue has been reaffirmed by recent events in Iraq, Libya, Yemen and other Middle Eastern countries, she added.
"We continue calling to forget political differences and start setting up broad interparliamentary and intergovernmental cooperation in tackling international terrorism," Matvienko stressed.
She also reminded that the Russian senators have initiated an inter-parliamentary cooperation in the format of video conference talks between the parliaments of Russia, the European countries, Syria, Turkey, Iran and other states, the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza reported.
