Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev called for the intensification of cooperation within the CIS at the opening of the CIS Council of Heads of State.
According to him, since the founding of the CIS, Astana has supported and continues to support the intensification of multilateral cooperation between the member states. Kazakh leader noted that the CIS is "a unique universal platform which unites 11 countries of post-Soviet space".
Nazarbayev added that the agenda of today's meeting includes 17 issues.
"A large section was dedicated to the issues related to ensuring security, law and order. It is planned to sign a package of international agreements, approve the policy documents, as well as adopt the statement of CIS heads of state on fighting the international terrorism," TASS cited the president of Kazakhstan as saying.
