Nazarbayev: we need anti-terrorist network under UN auspices

President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has proposed creating an international network to combat terrorism under the auspices of the UN.

Yesterday Nazarbayev arrived in Ufa to participate in the BRICS and SCO summits. At a meeting with the leaders of the BRICS countries he stressed Astana's readiness to continue cooperation to meet modern challenges.

"One of those is terrorism, and it is only possible to counter it by creating an international network under the auspices of the United Nations. We have to raise this issue during the 70th UN General Assembly. Terrorism is a threat to the world, and our region above all,” Nazarbayev said.

Kazakhstan's President also noted the importance of addressing food security issues.

“According to UN estimates, the next 30 years will require a doubling of food production due to over-population. Kazakhstan is ready to contribute to the solution of this issue. Our country is one of the ten largest grain exporters in the world,” RIA Novosti cited Nazarbayev as saying.
