Putin urges government to work at usual pace while new cabinet being formed (VIDEO)

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the members of the Russian government, which is to resign under the Russian constitution, in the Kremlin late on Sunday. The Presidential Administration published the transcript of the meeting at its official homepage. 

The president stressed that the six year of the government’s term were "very rich in new challenges and extraordinary developments both inside the country and in the world".  According to Putin, "firmness and consistency, readiness to undertake responsibility and implement decisions on the basis on present-day approaches were needed from the government and members of the government demonstrated these qualities." 

"The cabinet worked well, as a real team, thanks to Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev," he added.

"In general, our key task for the next few years is a significant raise of the citizens' real income. And there is a good foundation for that now. The economy has grown more stable, it has handled the sharp fall of oil prices, attempts to put pressure via sanctions, the changes of the global political settings," the president said.

Putin stressed that the actions of the government allowed to overcome the slump in the economy, ensure the restoration and revitalization of many sectors.

The president noted that the increase of salaries of state employees, including doctors, teachers and other professionals, was an important result.

Putin made the request to Medvedev in the process of a meeting. "It’s important to keep and develop the up-to-date approaches and to ensure continuity of operations, as well as succession in the country’s development, including a strict pace of activity while the next cabinet is formed," he Russian leader said.

"I hope for your support, sense of responsibility and professionalism," he added.
