UN Security Council warns of youth radicalization

The UN Security Council has unanimously adopted a resolution submitted by Jordan, dedicated to the threat of radicalization of young people.

The document defined youth as persons of the age of 18-29 years old.

The resolution draws attention to the fact that "today’s generation of youth is the largest the world has ever known" and that "young people often form the majority of the populations of countries affected by armed conflict," RIA Novosti cited the document as saying.

The document notes its possible contribution to the promotion of and the role "youth can play in the prevention and resolution of conflicts."

"Recognizing that the rise of radicalization to violence and violent extremism, especially among youth, threatens stability and development, and can often derail peacebuilding efforts and foment conflict," the resolution stressed.
