The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) confirmed its readiness to provide 12 billion cubic meters of gas for the Nabucco pipeline, the Bavarian state minister for federal and European issues Emilia Mueller said on Friday, after a meeting with SOCAR Vice-President Elshad Nasirov, Trend reports.
“However, the pipeline will need 31 billion cubic meters of gas. That is why we are negotiating with other countries for their participation in the project”, Mueller said.
Nabucco is a very important project for Germany for diversifying gas supply. But first of all it is necessary to fulfill all legal norms for realization of the project and understand how the pipeline will be supplied with gas, Mueller notes.
Mueller expressed her confidence in the importance of the project, which is supported by the EU. The German company RWE is participating in the project. It plans to build a gas-based power plant in Bavaria.
Mueller emphasized that their primary objective is providing Germany with energy at an optimal price.
