Pashinyan should return to the negotiating table, and stop making baseless accusations against Baku. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry calls on Armenia to stop provocations and fulfill the obligations of the trilateral statement.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has responded to the unacceptable statements made by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
The Armenian prime minister said that the responsibility for the latest provocation in the direction of Lachin, as a result of which three Azerbaijani servicemen were killed, lies with Baku.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry noted that Pashinyan's words about taking in account the 1991 borders are biased and require clarification.
"We would like to remind the Prime Minister of Armenia that as a result of the occupation policy carried out by Armenia against Azerbaijan, in 1990, the villages of Kerki and Baganis were occupied by Armenia. At the same time, Armenia, contrary to the trilateral statement, has not yet withdrawn its armed forces from Azerbaijani territories and keeps 8 Azerbaijani villages under occupation. In this particular case, the prime minister must first clarify the question of what is meant by the 1991 borders,”
– Aykhan Hajizade, the press secretary of the Azerbaijani department, says in a statement.
Yerevan maintains territorial claims against Baku, does not withdraw its forces from these territories. Thus, it is a vivid example of a serious violation of the Prague and Sochi agreements and Armenia's lack of interest in the peace process, the report reads.
The Armenian authorities do not give consent to the creation of a checkpoint in the Lachin corridor and continue to persist on the alleged closure and blockade of the Lachin road, thereby distorting the decision of the International Court of Justice on this issue, the statement runs.
"We demand from the Armenian side, instead of making unfounded statements, to return to negotiations on a peace treaty, from which they withdrawn in December last year, to comply with the obligations of the trilateral statement, including the opening of communications, the complete withdrawal of forces from Azerbaijani territories, to refrain from steps against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan,"
