Intensive deliveries of fighters and weapons to Karabakh, organized by illegal Armenian armed groups, have been stopped. Detours of the Lachin road have been taken under Azerbaijan’s control, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic reports.
In recent days, illegal transportation from Armenia to Azerbaijani territories, where the Russian peacekeeping contingent is temporarily stationed, has become much more intense, the press release reads. Armenian illegal armed formations were transporting manpower, mines, and weapons via backroads to the detour of the Lachin road. Usually, transportation took place at night and in foggy weather.
The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan informs that the Armenian illegal armed formations were also noticed expanding of old and laying new roads along several routes that run through mountainous and unpaved areas. Military, engineering and special equipment is used for road works by illegal armed formations. The labor force is local residents and contracted military servicemen.
The Azerbaijani military has established that illegal construction work has intensified over the past few days on the Khankendi-Khalfali-Turshsu road and to the north of the Khankendi-Kesalar-Mirzelar-Turshsu road. These routes are used for providing and supplying the combat positions of the Armenian illegal armed formations, the ministry reports.
The Azerbaijani side has repeatedly drawn attention to the fact that the illegal activities of the Armenian side in the Karabakh economic region of Azerbaijan violate the Trilateral Statement of November 9, 2020 and may lead to an escalation of the situation in the region. The relevant discussions were held, but proper measures to prevent these transfers were not taken.
The Azerbaijani army units implemented the necessary local control measures in order to prevent the use of backroads north of the Lachin road for illegal activities and to stop the escalation of the situation in the region through the illegal transportation of ammunition from Armenia, the official statement of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan reads.
