Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said China valued its relations with Venezuela and had always maintained good communication and cooperation with the Venezuelan government.
“China will continue to firmly support Venezuela in safeguarding sovereignty, dignity and national security,” Mao said.
According to her, no matter how the political situation may evolve in Venezuela, China is deeply committed to deepening practical cooperation across many fields and promoting common development.
This week Mao has repeatedly emphasised that China’s cooperation with Venezuela was rooted in mutual respect between “two sovereign states.”
She stressed that China’s rights and interests in Venezuela must be protected, and condemned what she called “blatant interference” and a “typical act of bullying” by the U.S.
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil has thanked China for its “support and solidarity in the face of the recent U.S. military aggression”.
“Venezuela reaffirms its commitment to deepening trade and economic agreements with the People’s Republic of China,” Yvan Gil said.
He added that relations between the two countries were “supported by the framework of international law and the regulations of both sovereign nations”.
