The authorities of the Jewish state will launch a ground operation in the Gaza Strip no earlier than they receive American air defense systems.
The Israeli leadership fears that an active operation on the ground in the Palestinian enclave will displease the Lebanese Hezbollah and Tehran.
Israel is also trying to gain time to free hostages taken by Hamas and cut off sources of arms supplies to the enclave.
