Scientists in Kazakhstan plan to collect locusts, supply them to agricultural producers, and even export to countries where they are eaten on a regular basis.

The prospects for locusts in Kazakhstan were discussed in the scientific community.

Kazakhstan will closely tackle the locust problem, which allows both to neutralize and use insects as a valuable food resource, Chairman of the National Agrarian Research and Education Center Baurzhan Kasenov said.

According to him, such studies have already been carried out. They were organized by the Kazakh Research Institute of Plant Protection and Quarantine. German colleagues also took part in the work.

Kasenov recalled that currently over 2 billion people who live in Africa, South America and Asia eat locusts. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has proven that locusts both safe and beneficial.
