Ukrainian president visits Azerbaijan

 Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovych has visited Baku and met Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to discuss bilateral relations, political and economic developments.Yanukovych honoured Azerbaijani National Leader Heydar Aliyev and expressed joy over Baku’s hosting the first European Olympic Games. 

Ukrainian PM resigns

 Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov has announced resignation to President Victor Yanukovych due to becoming a people’s deputy, according to article 115 of the Constitution and article 15 of the law on Cabinet, Interfax reports.Yanukovych permitted the resignation. The Cabinet will continue its work until a new one is formed. Speaker of Parliament of the sixth calling Vladimir Litvin said that the decision on the new Cabinet will be made after formation of the presidium of parliament.

Ukraine’s Party of Regions wins parliamentary polls

 The Party of Regions of Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovych has won the parliamentary polls with 57.99% of votes. The party had 37.09% of votes after calculation of over a quarter of votes, according to party lists. Fatherland of Yulia Timoshenko got 20.79% of votes.

Ukrainian president wants to cooperate with Customs Union

 Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovych said at the annual Yalta European Strategy Forum that Ukraine was searching for cooperation and integration in the Customs Union, RIA Novosti reports.He expressed interest in the Eurasian Economic Society.Moscow offered Kiev to join the Customs Union in exchange for lower prices for energy carriers. Ukraine says that it will need to change the Constitution and offers to cooperate in the 3+1 format (Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan + Ukraine).

Ukraine halts extradition of assassination plotters against Putin

 The European Court of Human Rights has recommended Ukraine to halt extradition of Adam Osmayev, suspected plotter of assassination of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chechen Leader Ramzan Kadyrov. Osmayev’s wife Amina Okuyaeva said that the decision was made on Friday but announced on Monday. His relatives expect Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovych to comment on the issue.

Ukraine ratifies agreement on CIS free trade zone

 The Ukrainian parliament has ratified the agreement forming a free trade zone within the framework of the CIS today, RIA Novosti reports.260 MPs voted for ratification (226 needed). Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovych introduced the bill last week. Its text was initialed a year ago, but the document was signed in October 2011.Ukraine was the third out of nine states to ratify the document. Russia and Belarus were the first two.

 The political crisis provoked by the law on Russian language in Ukraine may end up with off-year parliamentary polls, President Victor Yanukovych said, RIA Novosti reports.Ukrainian Speaker of Parliament Vladimir Litvin said after the bill was passed on Wednesday that he wanted to resign. Journalists and assistant MPs applauded for his decision. The People’s Party under Litvin’s chairmanship and the Party of Regions initiated a break.

Russian PM visits Kiev

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev is on a visit to Kiev to support Russian investors, Interfax reports.Medvedev will meet Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovych, attend the ninth session of the committee for economic cooperation of the Russian-Ukrainian interstate commission.The officials will also discuss ratification of the CIS free trade agreement in Ukraine. Russia ratified it in April 2012.

Suspected Dnepropetrovsk blast organizers detained in Ukraine

 The police have detained four people suspected of organizing the blast in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Victor Pshonka told President Victor Yanukovych, RIA Novosti reports.Vestnik Kavkaza reported that 30 people were injured in a blast in Dnepropetrovsk on April 27.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has met a Ukrainian delegation headed by Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov today, Trend reports.Aliyev noted that the visit will contribute to development of bilateral and multilateral ties between the two states.Azarov has given regards of Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovych to Aliyev and noted that he had witnessed a lot of construction in Baku.

Lukeshanko promises to help Prosperous Armenia with voters

The Prosperous Armenia Party expects foreign support at the upcoming parliamentary polls, News.am reports.Members of the party say that Gagik Tsarukyan helped Ukrainian and Belarusian Presidents Victor Yanukovych and Alexander Lukashenko and now it is their turn to return the favor. Lukashenko promised to send 12,000 voters to Armenia. Armenian citizens living in Belarus are expected to arrive for the polls and give vote for Tsarukyan’s party.

Ukraine plans to build terminal for liquefied gas in Black Sea

Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovych announced plans to build a terminal for liquefied gas on the Black Sea coast, Business Georgia said.The project is worth about $2.5 billion and is planned for realization by late 2015. Kiev is negotiating liquefied gas supplies and terminal construction with France.

Yulia Timoshenko, the former Ukrainian Prime Minister, has received 7 years imprisonment and banned from state service for 3 years. The sentence was passed by Judge of the Pechersky District Court of Kiev, Rodion Kireyev, ITAR-TASS reports.
