Georgia pays off debt to UNESCO

The Georgian government has paid off its debt to UNESCO for the event on the occasion of the Independence Day of Georgia on May 27 in 2009 held at the headquarters of the organization.

Moscow will help Tehran to enter the SCO

Moscow and Tehran have reached an agreement on joint action for Tehran's full membership in the SCO: at the moment, Iran is an observer, the Iranian embassy in Russia said.  The agreement between the two countries was signed during a Special Representative of the Iranian leadership, Ali Akbar Velayati's visit to the Russian capital.  

450 churches of discord

The Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia (DAACG) does not claim possession of the churches belonging to the Georgian Orthodox Church, however, it requires the transmission of its property of about 450 churches belonging to the Georgian Orthodox Church.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has rounded up the developments of 2014. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that resolution of global security and stability problems needed joint efforts. He called attempts to isolate Russia pointless. The minister emphasized that no new Cold War would start, urging Washington to resume a constructive approach.

Ministry of Culture of Georgia will not argue with Church of Armenia

The head of the Ministry of Culture of Georgia, Mikheil Giorgadze said today that his ministry is not responsible for assigning denominations to churches. Earlier, Armenia appealed to UNESCO to recognize 450 churches in Georgia as belonging to the Armenian Apostolic Church. The head of the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Protection, Nikoloz Antidze said that UNESCO cannot solve issues about the ownership of cultural heritage.
