Interview by Vestnik KavkazaA week has passed since the announcement of the results of the presidential elections in Azerbaijan, and nobody intends to dispute them (the victory of Ilham Aliyev is obvious). However, discussions of whether the elections were democratic continue. Vestnik Kavkaza interviewed a political scientist from the Berlin Center for Caspian Region Studies, Mathias Dornfeld, who was in Azerbaijan as an observer. He also spoke about the prospects for Azerbaijan’s developments after the presidential elections.

Azerbaijani gas to be cheaper than Russian

Kenan Yavuz, head of the SOCAR Turkey Enerji Petkim, said that the SOCAR was planning to launch TANAP in 2018 and make Azerbaijani gas cheaper that the Russian, Trend reports.SOCAR partners developing Shah Deniz were planning to distribute shares: 12% for Statoil and BP each and 5% for Total. The TANAP project will allow shipments of 16 billion cubic meters of Shah Deniz gas to Europe every year, about 6 billion of which will be transferred to Turkey.

If after 2036 Azerbaijan does not extend contracts for the development of Shah Deniz gas and condensate field with foreign partners, all commitments on gas contracts will be taken over by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), the company's president Rovnag Abdullayev said at a press conference on Thursday, Trend reports.According to Abdullayev, in 2012 it was decided to extend the contract until 2036.The total reserves of the Shah Deniz field are estimated at 1.2 trillion cubic meters of gas.

TAP does not rule out Nabucco West realization – Azerbaijani minister

Botas (Turkey) plans to purchase a share of 15% in the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) project, Trend cites Turkish Minister for Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz.He noted that Nabucco had not lost its significance, especially in the light of the EU’s need for gas. He said that Nabucco and the TAP were not competitors and could be parallel projects.
