New U.S. Ambassador to arrive in Azerbaijan

New U.S. Ambassador Richard Morningstar will arrive in Azerbaijan after August 25, it was announced at a private event held in honour of the new U.S. ambassador to Azerbaijan in the office of the United States-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce (USACC) in Georgetown. Morningstar raised the issues of energy security and cooperation in the Caspian region, adding that the South Energy Corridor is important for Azerbaijan in terms of energy diversification, according to a press release of the United States-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce (USACC).

Richard Morningstar will take the oath as the new US Ambassador to Azerbaijan on July 20, 1news.az reports.Morningstar was approved as the Ambassador on June 29. US Charge d’Affaires Adam Sterling said in early July that the ambassador was preparing to arrive in Baku.The ambassador’s position became vacant with the departure of Ambassador Matthew Bryza in early 2012. US President Barack Obama announced plans to appoint Morningstar in late April.

The European Political Center has held a conference attended by South Caucasus states within the framework of the Eastern Partnership program and integration of Euro-Atlantic space, Trend cites Asim Mollazade, a member of the Azerbaijani parliamentary committee for foreign affairs and interparliamentary links, as saying.Mollazade said that unresolved conflicts are the main obstacle for South Caucasus states to join the Euro-Atlantic space. NATO and Europe need to assist in settling the conflicts.

Morningstar calls Nagorno-Karabakh peace process essential for whole region

 Richard Morningstar, a candidate for US Ambassador to Azerbaijan, had discussions at the Committee for Foreign Affairs of the US Senate on Wednesday. He said that the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process is essential for the whole region, AzerTAG reports.He reminded about the visit of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to Azerbaijan. The human rights was one of the topics she discussed.Morningstar noted the importance of realization of the South Corridor, TANAP, Shah Deniz project set for mid-2013.The Senate will give 48 hours for additional questions.

US Senate to consider Morningstar as Ambassador to Baku

The Committee for Foreign Relations of the US Senate will consider Richard Morningstar as the US Ambassador to Azerbaijan, 1news reports.President Barack Obama announced plans to appoint 67-year old Morningstar in late April. The diplomat has been the Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy.Elnur Aslanov, head of the section for political analyses and information support of the Presidential Administration, called Morningstar a professional diplomat and a well-known figure in the region.

Former US envoy to Baku join board of Turkey's Turcas

 Matthew Bryza, former US Ambassador to Azerbaijan, has joined the board of Turkish company Turcas, 1news reports.Turcas and the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) were part of the Petkim petrochemical complex. SOCAR-Turcas started construction of a new refinery in Turkey to fulfill Petkim’s demand for materials. Construction started in Izmir on October 25.Bryza left Azerbaijan in late December 2011.

 The Armenian community in the US is disappointed with President Barack Obama, because he has not said “genocide” and said “Mets Yegern” (“Great Slaughter”) instead.Obama promised to recognize the Armenian Genocide during his electoral campaign.
