Randa Kassis, president and founder of the Movement of the Pluralistic Society, said today that the Syrian opposition will gather for another round of talks in Astana in mid-September. She said the UN Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, will be invited to the talks, RIA Novosti reports. Syrian opposition groups held talks in Astana on May 25-27, concluding it with a document urging all foreign militants to leave the country. The document emphasized the need to form a united front to combat terrorism. Six participants refused to sign the document.

Spokesman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Lukashevich said that the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, and his deputy, Ramzi Izz-Eddin, might attend the second round of inter-Syrian talks in Moscow on April 6-9, TASS reports.The meeting will stimulate the inter-Syrian dialogue based on the Geneva Communique of June 30, 2012. Lukashevich noted that the second round would be more substantial.
