The U.S. military carried out strikes on Iran’s radar system and drone control centers, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said.
"U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) conducted self-defense strikes on Iranian radar and command and control sites for drones in Goruk, Iran and Qeshm Island," the command said.
According to CENTCOM, the strikes took place on Saturday and Sunday and came in response to Iran’s alleged downing of a U.S. MQ-1 drone.
"U.S. fighter aircraft swiftly responded by eliminating Iranian air defenses, a ground control station, and two one-way attack drones that posed clear threats to ships transiting regional waters," the command added.
No U.S. military personnel were injured in the incident. According to CENTCOM, the command "will continue to protect U.S. assets and interests" during the "ongoing ceasefire."
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), an elite branch of Iran's armed forces, says it has launched a retaliatory attack on the U.S. military base used to carry out a nighttime strike on the Iranian island of Sirik, Iran's state broadcaster reported.
"In response to the recent US military attack on a telecommunications tower on Sirik Island in Hormozgan Province, the IRGC Air Force struck the airbase from which the attack was launched," the statement reads.
