Today, on January 5, senior Syrian and Israeli officials will meet in Paris to resume negotiations on a new security agreement, according to sources.
The U.S. is pressing Israel and Syria for a deal that would stabilize the security situation on their border and potentially be the first step toward future diplomatic normalization, Axios reported.
The talks are expected to take place over two days.
"The goal is a security pact that includes the de-militarization of southern Syria and Israeli withdrawal from the parts of Syria it occupied after the collapse of the Assad regime," Axios reported.
