Türkiye’s new main battle tank named “Altay” has begun mass production at the plant of Turkish automaker BMC in Ankara, Turkish media reported.
Equipped with modern technologies, 65-ton Altay is powered by the BATU engine.
BMC’s Ankara production plant uses industrial robots and next-generation production technologies to make the tank, from hull production to the final assembly line.
The main armament of the tank is the 120 mm MKEK120 smoothbore gun.
The tank is designed to replace the older M48-series and M60-series tanks, as well as the German-made Leopard 1 and 2 tanks.
