According to the WCIOM polling center, 87% of Russians questioned are aware that Ukrainian shells are landing on Russian territory, 47% of them are well aware, 40% have heard about it. 69% believe that Russia should respond diplomatically. 68% of women, 69% of residents of small cities, 84% of A Fair Russia supporters have a similar opinion, RIA Novosti reports.

Vladimir Zhirinovsky, the leader of the LDPR, said on Vesti 24 TV yesterday that Russian media should stop focusing on coverage of negative events abroad, especially in Ukraine, and should make more reports about positive developments in friendly countries, such as Azerbaijan. In his words, Azerbaijan was developing villages, building new complexes, including sports facilities. Zhirinovsky explained that the success of Azerbaijan was a result of its leader Ilham Aliyev and his father Heydar Aliyev.

The self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic will not participate in Ukraine’s upcoming presidential election on May 25, DPR Co-Chairman Denis Pushilin said Monday, RIA Novosti reports.“The election will not take place here,” Pushilin said.The announcement followed a statement by Southeastern Army Press Secretary Vasiliy Nikitin that the neighboring Luhansk People’s Republic was also not planning to participate in the vote.
