Today marks exactly 90 years since the Moscow Metro began operating. On this day in 1935, trains started running on the first line – the Sokolnicheskaya line. The significance of the event is hard to overestimate.
The authorities of the Russian capital and the Moscow Metro have prepared a large-scale celebration program.
At Sokolniki station, from which the first trains set off, a historical reconstruction of the first metro line's opening took place. In the evening, a festive procession "There is a metro!" took place in Sokolniki, the participants of which recreated the events of May 15, 1935.
The celebration program, which will last until May 18, includes exhibitions, performances, concerts, and a train parade on the Circle Line over the weekend.
In addition to this, the metro stations and platforms were decorated for the anniversary. Trubnaya station stands out in particular: miniature models of metro trains and festive balloons hang from the ceiling.
