The United States has incurred billions of dollars in losses from Iranian strikes on its military facilities across the Middle East. The construction cost of the Bahrain base is estimated at approximately $400 million.
According to an investigation by The Wall Street Journal, the total damage is estimated to range between $2.2 billion and $5.1 billion.
The outlet reported significant damage at the U.S. Navy base in Bahrain, which sustained direct hits. The strikes damaged the command headquarters, as well as a dozen other buildings and satellite communications terminals. Restoring just this one facility is projected to cost around $400 million.
The report notes that, given the vulnerability of its current installations to modern weaponry, the U.S. is now seriously considering a reassessment of its military footprint in the region.
Discussions are currently underway regarding the redistribution of forces and a partial drawdown of presence in several Gulf states. Specifically, Washington may reorganize its Bahrain base, scale back its presence in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, and relocate some facilities further westward - out of range of Iranian missiles and drones.
