Negotiations are underway between Russia and Israel regarding the potential transfer of the Alexander Compound in Jerusalem, according to an unnamed source.
"There is certainly a chance for the transfer; contacts are ongoing",
the source reported.
The source added, as reported by TASS, that Israeli authorities might agree to the transfer at a "politically opportune moment".
Let us remind you that the land on which the Alexander Compound in Jerusalem's Old City is built was purchased by Alexander II in 1859, with the buildings erected by the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society in 1896. However, after the 1917 Revolution, ownership of this land was disputed. Following an appeal by Russian President Vladimir Putin to Naftali Bennett, then Israel's Prime Minister, the Jerusalem District Court ruled that the matter should be considered solely by the government.
