Territories of Armenia and Georgia hit by floods

According to the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs, flooding occurred in the north of the country. Roads and bridges are destroyed, hundreds of people have been evacuated from dangerous areas.

The Debed River overflowed its banks, causing the flood. A 31-kilometer section of the Vanadzor-Alaverdi road was under water. 50 meters of routes were also destroyed.

It is noted that one person died as a result of a car falling into the river. The water also destroyed the bridge over the Debed and the bridge that connects the Sanahin station and the city of Alaverdi.

The Ministry said that railway infrastructure and other roads had been damaged. More than 230 people have been evacuated from flood-hit cities and towns.

More than 300 people are involved in rescue operations. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the rescue service has switched to an enhanced mode of operation.

The ministry said the flood triggered an explosion at the gas filling station in Alaverdi. Moreover, trains from Yerevan to Tbilisi have been cancelled.

According to Nikol Pashinyan's press secretary, Nazeli Baghdasaryan, the Armenian Prime Minister went to areas affected by flooding.

The flood also affected Georgia. The Khrami, Algeti, and Debda rivers in the Marneuli and Bolnisi districts of the Shida Kartli region overflowed their banks due to heavy rains. Streets, markets, and residential buildings are flooded.

The administrations of the two districts have formed commissions to assess the damage caused. In addition to this, the flooding damaged communication lines, road infrastructure and farmland.
