The 7th meeting of the Moscow Format of Consultations on Afghanistan was held in Moscow on October 7.

It brought together special representatives and senior officials from Russia, Afghanistan, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov opened the proceedings.

"The parties highlighted the importance of expanding political, trade, and economic cooperation between Afghanistan and both regional states and the broader international community. They advocated for Afghanistan’s active integration into regional economic systems," the ministry said.

The participants reaffirmed their support for the emergence of Afghanistan as an independent and peaceful state, free from terrorism and drugs.

They expressed readiness to assist Kabul in strengthening regional security and emphasised that the much needed international humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan must remain depoliticised.

"The significant role of regional platforms in advancing a peaceful settlement for Afghanistan was also acknowledged," the statement reads.

The meeting concluded with the adoption of a joint statement.

On the sidelines of the event, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a separate meeting with Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. They discussed opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation between Russia and Afghanistan, as well as coordination on international and regional platforms.
