Uzbekistan and the USA are in discussions concerning the potential acquisition of Lukoil's assets in Uzbekistan by local companies, according to Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, Uzbekistan's Minister of Energy.

According to Mirzamakhmudov, Washington initiated the dialogue by sending a letter to Tashkent, proposing an extension of the deadline for the asset sale until mid-January of next year.

This follows sanctions imposed by the United States against Lukoil earlier this fall, which mandated the freezing of all the Russian company's foreign assets and has spurred active global negotiations for the assets' selling.
