Iran has inalienable right to maintain peaceful nuclear program - MFA

Russia’s Permanent Representative to international organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov has emphasized that Iran has the right under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to continue its peaceful nuclear program, commenting a post by former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities.

Reacting to Pompeo’s claim that Washington would not allow Iran to revive its nuclear activities, the Russian diplomat said such statements ignore Iran’s rights under international law.

"The former U.S. foreign minister appears to be unaware that, under the NPT, Iran has the inalienable right to maintain national nuclear program provided that it serves exclusively peaceful purposes," Ulyanov said.
