"Developing-8" receives membership application from Azerbaijan

An application to join the "Developing-8" (D-8) received from Azerbaijan, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said.

The Developing-8 or D-8 has existed since 1997. Its headquarters located in Istanbul. The International Organization for the Development of Cooperation among Developing Muslim Countries was established in order to improve relations between such countries, as well as to improve their well-being and position on the world stage.

Today, the D-8 includes Türkiye, Egypt, Pakistan, Iran, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Malaysia.

According to the head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, the organization can be expanded with the acceptance of Azerbaijan. According to the minister, Baku sent an application to join the D-8, the purpose of which is to develop and grow.

"We need to transform D-8 to D-20",

Çavuşoğlu announced.

According to the minister, Türkiye pays great attention to deepening relations with fraternal countries, especially with Azerbaijan.
