US President Donald Trump expressed confidence in the demilitarization of Hamas with the participation of Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye.
"With the support of Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar, we will secure a COMPREHENSIVE Demilitarization Agreement with Hamas, including the surrender of ALL weapons, and the dismantling of EVERY tunnel",
Donald Trump said in a post on his social media.
Earlier, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff announced the start of the second phase of the Gaza peace process. Under the agreement, authority over the Palestinian enclave is to be transferred to an interim technocratic administration tasked with launching reconstruction efforts.
Hamas agreed to transfer power to a technocratic administration headed by Ali Shaath, who previously served as deputy head of the Palestinian Authority responsible for industrial development.
Let us remind you that Israel and Hamas agreed to begin a ceasefire last fall under the Trump peace plan. Palestinian radicals returned the surviving hostages to Israel and began returning the bodies of the dead. Israel handed over Palestinian prisoners to Hamas and began withdrawing its troops. However, the transition to the second phase of the plan was delayed by the issue of Hamas's demilitarization, as well as ongoing clashes between the parties.
