Kazakhstan intends to use Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan for its full capacity

Astana counts on filling the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline. Currently, only 40% of its capacity is used, thus, Kazakhstan is set to tranship additional 20 mn tons of oil.

The head of the Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan, Serik Zhumangrin, said that Astana is currently aiming to fill the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline. According to him, now it is 40% full, and the volume of 20 million tons remains available for transshipment.

Earlier, SOCAR and KazMunayGas signed an agreement under which 1.5 mn tons of oil is designed for transshipment. Zhumangrin also noted that 20,000 tons were transshipped via Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan in March, and in April, the amount will be increased to 125,000 tons.

The minister stressed that today Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are strengthening cooperation in various areas, especially in the trade sector. He added that the bilateral trade amounted to almost $500 mn.
