The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), banned in Türkiye, is withdrawing its troops from that country, according to the organization's own statement.
The statement explains that the current situation in the Middle East poses a serious threat to the future of Turkey and the Kurds. The PKK's renunciation of armed struggle, which began in 2024 with statements by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the leader of the Turkish Nationalist Movement Party Devlet Bahçeli, and PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, who called for "peace and a democratic society", is at a significant, decisive stage.
The withdrawal implements the PKK's May congress decision to dissolve its military structure and permanently abandon armed conflict strategies.
The organization stated the troop removal eliminates potential conflict triggers and prevents possible provocations stemming from its presence in Türkiye.
"The withdrawal of terrorist elements from Türkiye and the announcement of new steps toward disarmament are developments in line with the main objective – a Türkiye free of terrorism",
Ömer Çelik said.
