Tbilisi schools compete in saving electricity

Today, a competition kicks off in Tbilisi schools. The participants are tasked to create projects to increase energy efficiency. Students will offer the jury the most productive ways to save energy in educational institutions. The winners will be awarded $3,330 each.

Today, ten secondary schools of the Georgian capital entered the competition on theoretical energy saving. According to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, the competition is included in the program of the republican energy reform.

Till June 15, schools will develop projects to increase energy efficiency of their schools, then a jury made up of members of the country’s energy agencies will determine three best projects and finance each of them with $3,330.

Deputy Economy Minister Romeo Mikautadze stressed that the competition helps children to use electricity more efficiently and save electricity in the future. He stated that every resident of Georgia must take a responsible approach to the resources issue.

The Deputy Minister added that it is not only about saving electricity, but also about improving the environment. In order for the energy reform to be implemented, citizens must know what and why is being done.
