The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has announced that the country's former Prime Minister will be sentenced to 5 years in prison. He is also required to pay a substantial fine.
Former Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili was sentenced to 5 years in prison, the republic's Prosecutor's Office reported.
The authorities noted that the ex-head of government has pleaded guilty.
Garibashvili is also obligated to pay a fine of 1 million lari (approximately $370,000). Funds obtained as a result of criminal activity and seized during a search of his residence will also be confiscated in favour of the state.
Previously, the Georgian Prosecutor's Office had charged the former PM with large-scale money laundering.
