Georgian authorities have announced the forthcoming launch of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line, a project set to strengthen regional connectivity.
The international railway will be inaugurated very soon, according to Georgia's Minister of Economy, Mariam Kvrivishvili.
"Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Georgia will celebrate the opening of the historic Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project very soon, which will play a significant role for our country and for the region," Mariam Kvrivishvili said.
The minister added that the official opening ceremony for the BTK project would take place shortly. She also outlined plans to bolster Georgia's transit role, announcing an investment of 1 billion lari (approximately $370 million) into Georgian Railways over the coming years.
It was noted that officials in Tbilisi reported in November that the BTK route's capacity could triple by the beginning of 2026.
