Speaker of the Georgian parliament Shalva Papuashvili said that he had signed the bill on foreign agents into law, with the document having gone into effect.
"I signed the bill on transparency of foreign influence," Papuashvili said.
The bill, which was approved by Georga's Parliament last month, requires media, nongovernmental organizations and other nonprofit groups to register as “pursuing the interests of a foreign power” if they receive more than 20% of their funding from abroad.
Georgian President Salome Zurabichvili vetoed the bill. But last week, the Georgian parliament managed to override Zurabichvili's veto on the bill on foreign agents by a majority of votes.
