The USA and Afghanistan are discussing the restoration of American control over Bagram Air Base. Donald Trump stated that if Afghanistan refuses to transfer the base, the country will face consequences.

"If Afghanistan doesn’t give Bagram Airbase back to those that built it, the United States of America, bad things are going to happen",

Donald Trump said.

Negotiations began on September 18–19. Trump emphasized the urgency of reclaiming the base, noting it is "just an hour (flight) from where China produces its nuclear weapons". He expressed his desire to regain the base as soon as possible.

"We're talking now to Afghanistan and we want it back and we want it back soon, right away",

Trump said.

Bagram Air Base was the largest U.S.-led military facility in Afghanistan. Under President Joe Biden, American troops abandoned it on July 1, 2021. Since August 15, 2021, the facility has been controlled by the Taliban, who currently hold power in Afghanistan.
