EU aims to accelerate phase-out of Russian LNG

Europe may stop purchasing LNG from Russia by January 1, 2027. The European Commission will present this measure today, Reuters reports, citing sources.

The European Commission is preparing to phase out imports of Russian liquefied natural gas by early 2027, a year earlier than previously planned.

The accelerated phaseout of Russian LNG will be included in the 19th package of anti-Russian sanctions, which will be presented by the European Commission on Friday, September 19, according to EC spokesperson Paula Pinho.

The official announcement will be made by EC President Ursula von der Leyen.
