Former head of Saakashvili's party placed under arrest

Former leader of Mikheil Saakashvili's United National Movement party, Levan Khabeishvili has been placed under arrest. He is accused of publicly calling for the overthrow of the government.

The chairman of the political council of the opposition United National Movement party, former chairman of this party Levan Khabeishvili, has been arrested for calls to overthrow the government, Georgian media report.

"At this moment, the judge placed Khabeishvili under arrest. No one expected any other decision,”

Khabeishvili was detained by the State Security Service on Thursday. He was charged under Article 317 of the Criminal Code (public calls for the overthrow of the government).
