IAEA Director General wants to lead the UN

Rafael Grossi intends to become the new UN Secretary General. He believes his experience as head of the IAEA will help him in his new position.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi intends to run for the post of Secretary General of the United Nations. He announced this on September 23 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

"The UN is currently in a difficult situation. <...> I believe it is possible to make the UN relevant. <...> If you say you are concerned with the rise in conflicts and violence, then it is somewhat hypocritical to focus on other things,”
