A meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Chinese President Xi Jinping was held in Tianjin, China today, the press service of Azerbaijan's President reported.

According to the press service, both leaders took a joint photo.

During the meeting, participants discussed the transportation of Chinese goods through Azerbaijani territory and the Trans-Caspian route, bilateral trade volumes, expanded cooperation in energy (including renewable sources), and digitalization initiatives.

The leaders of the two countries also discussed the prospects for cooperation between Baku and Beijing.

Ilham Aliyev emphasized that developing relations with China remains a priority of Azerbaijan's foreign policy.

Additionally, Aliyev briefed the Chinese leader on the normalization process of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations and ongoing peace efforts.

The South Caucasus leader also expressed support for China's positions regarding Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, emphasizing that Azerbaijan was among the first nations to condemn the recent elections held in Taiwan.

Let us recall that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Tianjin on a working visit the day before at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit starts today in Tianjin and will last two days.
