A man suspected of committing security crimes under the direction of Iranian intelligence agents has been arrested in Israel.

The suspect, a man over 40 from Rishon LeZion, was detained in December in a joint operation by the Israeli police and the Shin Bet security agency.

According to a joint statement, his Iranian handlers instructed him to purchase a dashcam for surveillance purposes. The investigation established that he photographed the area near the residence of former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.

The suspect is alleged to have exchanged photographs taken in his hometown and other locations for monetary compensation.

The arrest came several days after Iran executed a local man accused of spying for Israel, AFP reports.
