According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Kazakhstan has recorded over 350 electric scooter-related accidents since the beginning of this year. For several years, the ministry has advocated for prohibiting such vehicles on pedestrian pathways.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Lepekha and Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov have endorsed potential restrictions, stating that electric scooters endanger all road users. Officials noted that previously rejected measures targeting scooter operators had yielded negative safety outcomes.
It is reported that a decision to partially restrict the movement of scooters on sidewalks will be made in the very near future.
