Russian-Chinese relations have been brought to an "unprecedented" level, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a news conference reviewing the results of Russian diplomacy in 2025.

"They are unprecedented not only in their breadth and depth but also in the alignment of positions regarding developments in Eurasia and on the global stage," Sergey Lavrov said.

According to the Russian top diplomat, China has outplayed Western competitors in trade, economy, investment, and infrastructure projects.

"We have repeatedly spoken about the latest trends in global economic development when the People’s Republic of China, on the basis of the rules that the West itself led by the United States took as the basis for globalization, has outplayed its Western competitors," Sergey Lavrov said.

Trade turnover between Russia and China decreased by 6.9% year-on-year in 2025 reaching $228 billion.
