Media: Araghchi and Witkoff meet over weekend

According to a report by Axios citing sources, a contact between US Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi took place over the weekend.

According to the source, the Iranian minister contacted the US diplomat over the weekend amid President Donald Trump's threats to use military force against Iran. During the meeting, the two sides discussed the possibility of a face-to-face meeting in the coming days.

"The contact appears to have been an Iranian attempt to ensure de-escalation with the USA, or at least to buy time before any potential action ordered by Trump",

the sources stated.
