New IRGC Commander appointed in Iran

Ahmad Vahidi, formerly an adviser to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has been appointed as the new commander of the IRGC, according to local media reports.

Vahidi succeeds Mohammad Pakpour, who was killed in the recent US-Israeli strikes on Iran.

On Saturday, the USA and Israel carried out a series of airstrikes against targets in Iran. Among those killed in the attacks were Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Abdulrahim Mousavi, Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh, IRGC Commander Mohammad Pakpour, and Secretary of the Defense Council Ali Shamkhani.
